Video types

Which video should you make?

Every video starts from where it will play. Four promote your product, from its URL and your recordings. Others do a different job, like explaining a code change to developers.

Promotional

Four videos to promote what you made

From your product's URL, and a screen recording if you add one. Pick one, or make all four from the same footage in one look. These are the types the new-video form opens on.

Frequently asked

Picking a video type

Which video type should I make?

Start from where it will play. A teaser goes on a waitlist page or X the week before a launch. A hook stops the scroll in a feed or an ad. A pitch sells on Product Hunt, your homepage or an application. A demo walks through one task, for onboarding and docs. To explain a code change to developers, make a code explainer.

Can I make several types from the same material?

Yes. The Director starts from the same URL, recording and repo each time, so a teaser, hook, pitch and demo share one look. Each is its own video and uses one video from your pack.

What is a code explainer?

A narrated video under a minute that explains one code change: a pull request, a commit, or a technical release post. It lists everything that changed, shows why, walks through the hardest part on the real code, and ends on a link to the full change.

Why isn't the code explainer on the new-video form?

The form opens on the four promotional types, which most videos are. Start a code explainer from its page with the link to your change; after your first one, it stays on the form under Other.

Paste your URL. The Director takes it from there.
